Scooping Freezer

Looking for a partnership with a genuinely local producer of exceptional ice cream, gelato & sorbets to excite & delight you customers?  We use only Guernsey milk & cream from the Chilterns based Lacey’s Family Farm in our ice creams & gelatos.  Our sorbets are made with only real fruit.  We don’t believe in fake flavours or colours, our packaging is bio-degradable or fully recyclable.  We don’t leave packing waste behind and delivery comes in 100% electric vehicle.

Eat in or take home we’ve got it covered with either our impluse purchase sized, spoon in lid, 125ml single scoop pots or 500ml take home pots.  Yes 125ml, that’s 50%+ more than the tiny, stealth downsizing, 80ml pots increasingly being offered.

As a genuinely small local craft producer we regularly add to and change our flavour range.  We create plenty of limited editions, short runs & one offs to keep things interesting. If you see it try it, there may not be a second chance!

Why no fruit gelato/ice creams? They just don’t work very well.  Technically you can’t really go much beyond 20% fruit concentration naturally, due to real fruits high water content before gelato/ice cream becomes icy.  The result is muted flavours & colours that are nowhere near strong enough to meet todays “in your face” flavour & colour demands.  That bright pink & weird fruit taste is all food colourings & flavourings, nothing real about it, not us, never will be, – never compromise.

We produce nut gelato/ice creams at our premises so our labelling carries a nut warning.

The Classics

Lost count of the times we’ve been told we can never drop these flavours!  Not written into the Magna Carta but it feels like it!

  • Madagascan Vanilla – real deal, authentic Madagascan Vanilla.  We buy it from a small family run importer.  When prices skyrocketed  a few years back many dropped the real vanilla and went for cheap vanilla flavour, not us!  The madagascan market it rife with corruption & theft, personnally its saddens us.  By using an independent importer who deals direct with small growers we avoid supporting the gangs trying to control the market.  We can only hope for a better future there, everyone deserves to live in peace & safety.
  • Dark Chocolate – its regularly described as fudgy and hands down the best chocolate gelato/ice cream ever.  Why?  We blend our own chocolate!  Yep we seek out the finest cocoa and go from there.  Our favourite is black cocoa for its deep & intense colour, smoothness and lack of bitterness.  Its what you want your chocolate gelato to taste like but are so often disappointed insipid flavours.  The number of times we’ve been told “I don’t like chocolate ice cream, but yours I could eat all day!”
  • Sea Salted Caramel – characterised by deep, dark, complex caramel flavours, delicate butter notes and genuine trapani sea salt (from a World Wildlife Sanctuary) it sets the bar so high no one comes even close.  Its what caramel should always be, we achieve it by a roasting process that takes 4 days to complete, maturing the flavours slowly building intensity slowly.
  • Honeycomb & Dark Chocolate Chip – a natural flavour pairing but we do it our own way!  Using lashings of honeycomb we make in house, to eliminate additives we craft a honeycomb gelato with a deep colour &  flavour intensity.  Next we add the finest Belgian Dark Chocolate Chips to create an exceptional Honeycomb – Chocolate fusion.  The slight bitterness of the dark chocolate produces a wonderful balance to the honeycombs natural sweetness.
  • Mint Chocolate Chip – kidding right? Wrong! Peppermint & Dark Chocolate is a long time pairing and a regular chart topper!  Sure we only use organic peppermint and Belgian Chocolate Chips and not even a hint of green food colouring to elevate this classic to a whole new level.  You certainly won’t be disappointed!
  • Strawberry Sorbet – Packed with the pure real fruit we create a creaminess that will leave you in disbelief its not gelato/ice cream, which is just fine by us.  We’re serious, it sets the standard for what sorbet should and can be if only you have the talent, experience and desire to craft the very best.  Honestly we struggle to make enough!

We’ve built up a back catalogue of flavours since our 2015 birth and we love to release them when production slots become available, fruits come into season or the mood takes us.  Whatever the reason they’re just as exceptional in their character & flavour as our Classics, you really do need to be quick to get these flavours though!

This is where it all started for us, albeit in the restaurant trade space. Still its very near & dear.  Part of that is freedom to get really innovative and do oddball, out there stuff and really experiment with flavour pairings.  It also dramatically collapses the products packaging footprint, not to zero but getting there, particularly if you serve in cones with people to just “eating the packaging”.

The scooped experience is just that, much more of an experience, its more interactive, personal and there’s just something about a waffle cone brimming with sumpteous gelato or sorbet.  Margins are also much better for you.

You may already be thinking of the hassle of getting a scooping operation set-up, training staff & the space, toppings, not to mention which freezer etc.  Let us help!  We’re ready to advise from scoops to cones!  In fact check out the accessories tab, we’re now supplying cones to reduce the hassle and have a freezer manufacturer lined ready to ship.  As for toppings – don’t, our gelato & sorbet is best served “naked” and no we don’t mean the staff!  We work incredibly hard developing the finest flavours in our gelato’s & sorbets, why cover all that depth of flavour with sprinkles & whip cream, its the equivalent of smothering a 28day aged ribeye steak with ketchup!

Pre pandemic the scooping market drove our business, and where we honed & refined our skills for 5 years.  It definitely led what we did.  Times are different now, we had to adapt and the pot market now leads.

In practice this means pressing pause on our bespoke creations as demand in that area fell to zero.  One day it may well be back but for now we’re offering our pot range flavours to the scooping market. To be fair its currently covering the flavour range requirement several times over.

Green Statement

We don’t leave any packaging behind with our deliveries, we believe its the most efficient way of recycling, just don’t create the waste in the first place!  You’ll be familiar with the mountains of interim packaging you have to cope with and thankfully we won’t add anything to that!  Our delivery boxes have a 5 year lifespan and once they’ve reached that point are fully recyclable.

Managing food product packaging is difficult in large part because it doesn’t leave packaging clean, its therefore difficult if not impossible to economically recycle, not to mention find a viable market for the end recycled material.  It most cases it either becomes landfill or is incinerated.

The path to truly recylcable packaging is full of misinformation, half truths & outright cons.  Successive governments across the globe have failed to develop, much less implement coherent, credible strategies for the vast volumes of waste humanity generates, threatening the lives of every species on the planet.  The UK is particularly bad at it.

Retail Pots

We offer our range in both 125ml spoon in lid & 500ml take home sizes.

Our pots are currently transitioning 100% biodegradable and if you have the on-site facilities to deal with compostable (an almost no-one does) they are also compostable.  In practice this means they will fully degrade in a landfill environment within 1yr.

Currently this is the best  option we can find for ice cream pots.

Scooping Tubs

We offer both 2.5l napoli shaped and 4l rectangle tubs

Our scooping tubs are plastic and are both reusuable (the 4l in particular make great storage tubs) and fully recyclable, please dispose of them in the appropriate recycling bin once used.

Point of Sale (POS)

Chiltern Ice Cream Co. Sold Here, posters for in-store/window display are available free of charge.

We can arrange a Chiltern Ice Cream Co. logo & information vinyl wrap for your exisiting freezer.  Prices vary depending on size and do not include installing the vinyl, though we do have contacts who can carry out this service for minimal charge.

Freezers

We can’t offer free freezers but do have an arrangement with AHT for the supply of range of high quality, robust impulse purchase & scooping freezers. These will come with Chiltern Ice Cream Co. wrap already applied, free delivery and a 1yr parts & service warranty.

Waffle Cones

Purchasing small quanities of premium waffle cones isn’t cheap or easy, in support of our retailers this year we’ve introduced waffle cones.  We purchase them by the pallet to reduce the chances of breakage and reduce costs and sell them by the box without mark-up to our retailers, they aren’t available for delivery without a minimum order gelato/ice cream, sorbet purchase.
